In order to complete your application, applicants will navigate two web systems: the ECE web app system and FGSR's web app system. ECE will not consider any applicant who does not file their application on both web systems.

There are six steps to apply for graduate studies:

  1. Fill out and submit ECE's online application form.
  2. Response from the Department
Once the ECE online application form is submitted an automatically generated email will be sent confirming your application was received. Please note down your ECE Application Number as you will be required to enter this number when filling out FGSR's web application.  Do not proceed to Step 3 until you receive this email.
  3. Document Instructions and Tracking Link
Enter your ECE application number and password you chose when you filled out ECE's application. Read through the Instructions which provide detailed info with regard to Steps 4 through 7.
  4. Fill out FGSR's Application and pay the $100 non-refundable application fee using Visa or Master Card.
You must have your ECE Application Number to fill out FGSR's application. If you do not have this number go back to Step 1.  All students applying are required to pay a non-refundable $100 CAD application fee. Countries waived from the application fee.  Fill out FGSR's application even if the country you are applying from is waived from the fee.
  5. Supporting Documents (Document Instructions and Tracking)
For instructions as to the documents required as well as other important information please refer to the Document Instructions and Tracking Link.
All original supporting documents must be into this department by the Document Deadline Dates. Please note: students should be applying two to three months prior to the document deadline dates.
  6. Final Decision
Once the file is complete the student's file will go out for review, the student will be notified by the department when a decision has been reached. Please note: you cannot check your application status online.

IMPORTANT: When FGSR's application is filled out, the student receives a CCID account and U of A email address.  ECE does not use FGSR's tracking system (Bear Tracks) at the application stage, therefore students should not be checking Bear Tracks for the status of their applications.  Always refer to the Document Instructions and Tracking link to check the arrival of your documents.
